Outside the temple proper lies one of many reclining sculptures known by the spurious name of Chac Mool. While the meaning of these figures is little understood, it is worth noting that their presence during the Post-Classic period has been detected throughout most of Mesoamerica, from Western Mexico to the Maya area.
