K'inich Tatbu Skull I

K'INICH ta2-bu-JOLO:M?. Drawing and transcription after Martin and Grube (2008).

Maya ruler of Yaxchilan; also known as Mahk'ina Tah Skull I. Dates of reign unknown.

K'inich Tatbu Skull I is named as the "sixth seated lord" on one of the two retrospective king lists of Yaxchilan (Martin and Grube 2008:119). These were once thought to include the names of visiting dignitaries who attended the accessions at Yaxchilan, but it is now known that the foreign names are those of captives taken by the Yaxchilan kings (ibid.:118). K'inich Tatbu Skull's prisoner is a king of Bonampak named Bird Jaguar (ibid.:119).

The foregoing is based on Chronicle of the Maya Kings and Queens by Simon Martin and Nikolai Grube (2008:118-119). Their sources include David Stuart (personal communication 1999) for the transcription of the name as K'inich Tatbu Joloom.
