Lady Wak Tuun

IX-6-TU:N-ni. Drawing and transcription after Martin and Grube (2008).

Maya queen of Yaxchilan; also known as Ix Wak Tuun and Lady Wak Tuun of Motul de San Josť.

Of the four known wives of Bird Jaguar IV of Yaxchilan, Lady Wak Tuun and one other (Lady Wak Jalam Chan Ajaw) came from the kingdom of Motul de San Josť. Given the widespread Mesoamerican custom of cementing political ties by marriage, one may infer the importance of the Motul de San Josť polity to Yaxchilan.

The foregoing is based on Chronicle of the Maya Kings and Queens by Simon Martin and Nikolai Grube (2008:131).
