We'll return to the T-shaped element in the middle, but for now let's look at the vegetation on the top, the logogram NAL, "place". Linda Schele has identified the elements on the sides as corn silks, sometimes present as part of the logogram (Schele and Mathews1993:62). The la suffix may complement NAL.
