The navel hole at Santiago Atitlan is only uncovered once a year at midnight prior to Holy Friday during Easter Week. Later that morning, the Atitecos lower into the hole a massive wooden cross bearing a life-size sculpture of Christ with moveable arms crucified to it with nails.
