The attributes and function of Yaxper suggest that she may represent a Tz'utujil version of Ixchel (meaning "Lady Rainbow") the ancient Maya goddess of the moon, childbirth, and weaving who also wears a bound serpent headdress and participates in ceremonies associated with birth and creation (Taube 1994:658).

Aged goddess Ixchel (Goddess O) with serpent headdress from the Dresden Codex (Dresden page 39b, drawing by Villacorta).
