Nicolás placed special emphasis on the fact that the ropes used to hang the fruit are twisted like the old baroque-style columns of the altarpiece because they represent coiled snakes. Yaxper weaves them together on her loom to provide the framework on which the world is formed and decorated. The coiled serpent framework may be related to another ancient Maya precedent.
